What Are Crow’s Feet?

Crow’s feet is a common term used to describe fine lines and wrinkles found at the outer corners of your eyes. They may also be referred to as laughter lines. Due to a decline in collagen and elastin production as you age, your skin begins to lose elasticity. Because of this, the delicate skin around your eyes becomes more susceptible to creasing and deeper set wrinkles.

There are two specific types of crow’s feet: dynamic and static. Dynamic crow’s feet are wrinkles that appear only during muscle contraction. If your crow’s feet are primarily visible when you are smiling, they are most likely dynamic. Alternatively, static crow’s feet appear visible all the time, even on a resting face.

No matter what type of crow’s feet you have, treatment options are available to help improve and diminish their appearance. Here at Eden Skin Clinic, we offer a selection of anti-ageing treatments suitable for crow’s feet at both our Kensington and Wimbledon clinics.

Genetically you will inherit the facial patterns that determine the severity of your wrinkles. Deep laugh lines are likely to be caused by genetics, especially if they are present when you are young. However, as you age, these lines can become increasingly apparent with a loss of collagen.

While genetics play a key role in the development of crow’s feet, environmental factors can also contribute to their occurrence. Everyday behaviours such as repeated squinting and laughing are often all it takes to develop the early stages of crow’s feet. As well as this, smoking, UV rays, pollution, and other environmental stressors can strain and age the skin’s structure.

Over time, your skin’s ability to produce collagen decreases and its elasticity is also reduced, meaning that it is less likely to contract to its original shape when repeatedly stretched and relaxed. Therefore, the everyday facial expressions made when you smile, laugh, squint, or frown, mean the skin is frequently pulled tight and then loosened, contributing to wrinkles over time.

Crow’s feet are a natural and extremely common part of ageing. However, if the occurrence of deep laughter lines is affecting your confidence and self-esteem, our skincare specialists at Eden Skin Clinic are here to help.

What Treatments Are Available For Crow’s Feet?

At Tranquilstate, we offer a range of skin treatments to help improve the appearance of crow’s feet.

  • Micro-Needlingcan also be used to improve the appearance of crow’s feet. It uses a revolutionary 16 needle cartridge, creating micro-channels as it glides over the skin. These punctures encourage wound healing, helping to promote the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This results in a brighter, smoother, and youthful-looking complexion.
  • Venus Freezeis an anti-ageing and skin tightening treatment. It is completely non-invasive and requires minimal downtime, with results that develop for up to 4 months post-treatment. Venus Freeze uses pulsed magnetic fields combined with a radio frequency to gently heat the skin under its surface. This encourages the body to produce more collagen and elastin fibres to help tighten crow’s feet and laughter lines. With Venus Freeze, the result is firmer skin, softer wrinkles and a more youthful appearance.
